Three Simple Solutions to the Syrian Refugee Crisis

Recently a deacon at my church went off on the congregation calling us hypocritical Christians if we supported President Trump’s temporary ban on immigration. He is a big-hearted fellow and the church has a very large Hispanic population, so he believed he was saying the right thing to the right group. Unfortunately, he is a bit ignorant of world history as well as current events. He bought into Amazon’s television advertisement, released in time for Advent, where the priest and imam exchange Christmas gifts of knee-pads. While his heart is in the right place, wanting to bring peace, safety and security to the suffering, he is also willfully ignorant of the consequences of careless, feel-good immigration policies. He also seems to have forgotten that the Bible tells Christians to respect and adhere to the laws of the land where they live. Europe is years ahead of America when it comes to transplanted Muslim communities. In place of gratitude for their charitable actions, absorbing a never-ending stream of refugees from one conflict or another, they now have to deal with hundreds of Muslim neighborhoods that are “no-go zones” for police. Nice, eh? So when my deacon stood up and sermonized that I am a hypocrite and a hater, he missed the mark. It is not out of hatred that I want a strict American immigration policy. I simply do not want all the troubles that open borders have caused France and Germany. Not that he will ever read this, but here is my response to his impassioned sermon disguised as a homily.

There are three very simple three-step solutions to the current Syrian refugee crisis.

Solution Number One – Peace:
Step 1. Islam, the religion of peace, stops fighting.
Step 2. Refugees return to their homes.
Step 3. Syrians learn from their mistakes, and rebuild as a peaceful and prosperous country.

Solution Number Two – Extreme Bloodshed:
Step 1. Earth’s forty-three Muslim nations open their hearts and borders to their suffering Muslim brothers and sisters and give them refuge for the remainder of the conflict.
Step 2. The two warring side gather all their forces, drive out into the desert, have one great battle, soak the sand with needless bloodshed, and achieve absolutely nothing of substance except their mutual destruction.
Step 3. Syrians learn from their mistakes, and rebuild as a peaceful prosperous country.

Solution Number Three – Hit Them in the Pocketbook:
Step 1: The United Nations sets aside a permanent territory for Muslim refugees, regardless of the current conflict, Shiite, Sunni, or whatever, conveniently located in the region of the Middle East so various refugees can easily gain access. It would be like a summer camp facility that rents out to various groups as conflicts wax and wane.
Step 2A: Frozen funds from terrorist groups would finance the costs of maintaining the refugee area until funds are exhausted.
Step 2B: Frozen funds from terrorist sponsoring nations would finance the costs of maintaining the refugee area until funds are exhausted.
Step 2C: Muslim nations would fund the costs of maintaining the refugee area until funds are exhausted.
Step 2D: Nations and manufacturers who make and sell weapons to current warring factions would fund the costs of maintaining the refugee area until funds are exhausted.
Step 3: Islam would look at the financial cost of hatred and war, and finally stop fighting. Peace would ensue and refugees would go home to build a peaceful and prosperous country.

The Ridiculous Solution – Political Correctness:
Step 1. Through international meddling, ensure the Syrian and like conflicts continue for many, many years.
Step 2. Export the refugees to foreign countries thousands of miles away, with radically different cultures, religions, languages and ways of life where they will have no choice but to seek out culturally like-minded neighborhoods as a matter of survival.
Step 3. Allow these Muslim neighborhoods to become police “no-go zones” where the laws of host nation are disrespected and ignored in favor of Sharia law, ultimately bringing microcosms of Islamic conflict to the rest of the world.

Islam, the religion of peace, has been in a constant state of war since 624AD. They fight each other, and they fight Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists. They have openly vowed to wipe Israel off the face of the earth and drive the Jews into the sea. Since the decline and fall of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th Century, Islam has engaged in perhaps the greatest ongoing genocide in the history of modern man. Millions of Christians and Jews, as well as followers of fringe Muslim sects, have been slaughtered in the name of Allah over the past 130 years, starting with the Armenian Genocide. Today, Christianity and Judaism are on the brink of extinction in many Muslim countries. The Shiites and the Sunnis do not live in peace with each other or anyone else. America and Europe cannot solve the humanitarian crisis generated by 1400 years of discord, hatred and war. Our efforts amount to applying a band-aid to a cancerous tumor. Islam created this problem and Islam is the only entity that can fix it. That will not happen until they acknowledge Israel’s right to exist, and that Jews and Christians are in every way their equals. Oh, and stop fighting. Until then, the endless fighting and suffering will continue until there is a clear winner and everyone else is dead, no matter how many refugees we take.

America Celebrates Independence Day by Persecuting Christians

  • Rite: a prescribed form or manner governing the words or actions for a ceremony. A ceremonial act or action.
  • Right: Something to which one has a just claim.

On July 2nd the Oregon Bureau of Labor an Industry, AKA Brad “Armenian Genocide” Avakian, handed down a final judgment in the Sweet Cakes By Melissa case. Bakery owners, Melissa and Aaron Klein, must pay two lesbians $135,000 by Friday, July 10th for refusing to participate in their marriage rites in 2013. Lesbians Laurel and Rachel Bowman-Cryer demanded a service from the bakery that the bakery did not provide, a same-sex wedding cake. The two women were perfectly welcome to purchase any amount of bread, pastries and pies they wanted. They were welcome to purchase a birthday cake or graduation cake. They were welcome to purchase any baked product that Sweet Cakes sold. However, much like a Halaal butcher who will not process or sell pork, the Kleins are Christians who do not make same-sex wedding cakes because the rite of same-sex marriage is against their religion.

Within Christianity there are six fundamental sacramental rites: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Forgiveness, Marriage, and Priesthood. These are rites we do not take lightly, much to the distain of others. Outside of America’s religious – Christians, Mormons, Jews, Muslims and the like – the institution of marriage has become hollow and nearly meaningless. People float in and out of relationships on a whim, and over 40% of all American babies are born out-of-wedlock. The respect for marriage as an institution is waning in America. The respect for marriage as a religious rite is dead. It is readily apparent that, while the Bowman-Cryer’s want the right to marry, they have utter contempt for the religious rites of marriage.

Portland, Oregon is home to scores of bakeries, just like it is home to scores of butchers. There are only a handful of Halaal butchers, and Sweet Cakes by Melissa was one of the few, perhaps the only, Christian bakery, now destroyed by the Oregon State Government in direct violation of the Oregon Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of religion. When decent folk want pork, they pass by the Halaal butcher’s shop. They do not walk in and demand services that violate butcher’s religious laws. Only mean, disrespectful, hateful people do things like that.

Melissa and Aaron Klein did not actively interfere with the Bowerman-Cryer’s ability to go through a marriage ceremony. They just asked not to be involved. They wanted to be left out of ceremonial rites the two lesbians were about undertake. It is not about the cake or hate or discrimination. It is about the religious nature of marriage. The lesbians were not engaging in a government sanctioned civil union. They had no government issued license. In fact, at the time same-sex marriage was illegal in Oregon. The rite of marriage that the lesbians were about the engage in was purely a spiritual ceremony. Unfortunately, in order for a Christian to participate in a same-sex wedding, they must violate their own religious tenets. It is that simple.

Religion is weird, strange, peculiar, and sometimes obnoxious to those looking in from the outside. I live my life by a set code. There are things I will not do simply because of my religion. Every religion is like that. Some are stricter than others, and sometimes one sect’s rules are opposite to another sect’s, and many rules really chafe secular society. Rather than respecting their neighbor’s faith, secular people sometimes prefer to hate.

The rites of same-sex marriage are front and center in today’s America. The US Supreme Court has just handed down the decision that same-sex couples have the right to have their marriages recognized by society and the government. It was the right decision, and too long in coming. The trouble is that, along side this righteous decision, our leaders have decided that all people of faith must now participate in the rites of same-sex weddings, even when it is expressly forbidden by their religion. That is evil. I am Catholic, and I would never dream of forcing a Halaal butcher to cater my wedding reception, let alone tell him to provide ham sandwiches, and then threaten his livelihood if he refused. I would never ask a Jewish baker to make me a wedding cake adorned with a crucifix. I would never try to bully a Mormon caterer into serving coffee, tea, wine and beer. It would be extremely disrespectful. Evil.

During the colonization period of North America, many of the early immigrants were a variety of Christian sects fleeing religious persecution in post-Reformation Europe. Christian denominations were not one big, happy family back in the day. The king of England persecuted Catholics. The king of France persecuted Hugonauts. Ordinary people had their property forfeited, and were imprisoned or killed by their own government if they refused to renounce their beliefs in favor of the King’s church. It was an ugly, embarrassing era for Christianity. The New World was the one safe place for good, religious people like the Amish Mennonites and Quakers to live free from persecution and live in peace with one another.

Religious freedom is part of the very core set of shared beliefs that are the heart and soul of the United States of America. Without it, this country and everything that makes it great no longer exists. Brad Avakian’s forefathers, the victims of decades of genocide, fled religious persecution in Armenia and Turkey to settle in America. Today, America’s Armenian community is second in size only to Russia’s. Ellen Rosenblum’s ancestors, victims of the Holocaust, fled thousands of years of persecution in Europe and Persia. Today, America is home to nearly half of all the Jews on planet Earth. As a matter of fact, because America so values religious freedom, it is the most religiously diverse nation that has ever existed. The Amish only exist in America, Canada and Ireland. There is nowhere else to go. There will never be another New World. America is the world’s only bastion for religious freedom, and our elected leaders, whose ancestors came to our shores seeking those freedoms, are out to incrementally breach those walls and end it all.

Today, the “King’s Church” in America is atheism. Our government has unilaterally decided to reinterpret our constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion as freedom from religion. Aaron and Melissa Klein’s property is now forfeit because they refused to bow before it. Oregon lawmakers are telling us our religious rights must remain in the confines of our churches, synagogue, mosques, temples and kingdom halls. Once we step outside our sanctuary, we must bottle up our faith in our mind and accommodate a secular world that has contempt for our beliefs. Our government is making it illegal to make faith-based decisions and take faith-based actions, knowing that faith without acts is no faith at all. It is not just bakeries, florists, and wedding chapels that are under attack. For years left-wing American secularists have been pushing hard to force Christian physicians and medical facilities to provide abortion services. Religion is a threat to Big Brother, because our Constitution specifically states that God’s authority is greater than his, and he is under God. Big Brother hates that, and is doing everything he can to remove God from the equation.

There is only one peaceful solution. America’s religious have to stop voting for left-wing progressive politicians. People like Ellen Rosenblum, Brad Avakian, Hillary Clinton, President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid do not have our best interests at heart. Oregonians keep electing corrupt governors, and look what it has got us. John Kitzhaber won reelection last fall because Oregon’s religious citizenry turned a blind eye and gave him a pass. We have to stop giving bad people a pass and vote for men and women who will return this country to the constitutional democratic republic it once was… or we will continue to forfeit our liberties just like Aaron and Melissa Klein.

Understanding “Taking the Lord’s Name in Vain”

Growing up Catholic, I could not help but understand many religious factoids with all the worldliness of an eight-year-old kid. For the most part, the rules about murder, stealing and lying were easy to grasp, but the stuff about bopping my friend’s mom or loving the neighborhood bully were a bit baffling. When the Nuns told me that sins put black marks on my soul, I immediately conjured a mental image of smoker’s lungs. I had to grow up before I figured that stuff out. The last rule I figured out, pretty late in the game considering the simplicity of it all, was the Second Commandment, the one about taking the Lord’s name in vain.

I have a suspicion that most folks out there still see the Second Commandment through the eyes of their Sunday school classes, and believe it is pretty much limited to dropping a GD or a JC as an explicative when they get excited. You can divide those folks into two rough groups, the atheists and the monotheists. I have to say that both groups sound equally ridiculous when they drop God’s name on a whim, like he is their drinking buddy or something.

Atheists sound positively stupid. Let me get this straight. You are not convinced that God exists and you are certain that, if Jesus existed at all, he was just a religious zealot who got lucky and founded the dominant religion on planet Earth. Yet you constantly demand that a God you have no faith in damn all sorts of petty stuff, and you beg a dead rabbi to witness all the incredulous crap that occurs in your life. That’s clever.

Religious folks are even worse, though. We actually believe in God, and most of us believe that Jesus is God become man. When we drop a GD, we are actually calling on what we believe is the most powerful being in the universe to bring his full weight and fury down on whatever is irritating us. Can you imagine if God actually paid the least bit of attention to all our blather and cursed every little thing we asked him to? That would make global thermonuclear warfare look like a crisp walk on a pleasant autumn morning. Please! And to have the vanity to believe that JC actually wants to listen to all our petty criticisms of the world around us is pure idiocy. We are like a global cloud of mosquitoes swirling around God’s ear whining “GD this,” and “JC that.” We are lucky he largely tunes us out.

Still, that is only the Second Commandment for beginners. I believe that the Bible directs the real truth of the Second Commandment at those people who use God’s bully pulpit to violate God’s law. People who don the authority of God and then commit evil in the name of God. The Bible is replete with warning about these false prophets and false teachers. These are the people who use their position of religious authority to rape and abuse children, to enrich themselves, to start wars, to commit murder, terrorist acts, genocide, and the like. From Jim Jones to David Koresh to Bernard Law to Jimmy Swaggart, these sort of folks take the Lord’s name in vain with extreme gusto. The Lord will not hold any of these people guiltless. It is better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone around your neck than to harm a child. Call it the Ratzinger Conundrum. No cloak of faith or title will protect a single person. No Imam, rabbi, priest, pastor, nun or witch will be exempt. One and all, their best hope is that the atheists are right and all religion is make-believe.

British Imam is candidly honest with journalist Sean Hannity

“You’re An Evil SOB!”: Hannity Slams Radical Pro-Sharia Imam For Justifying Paris Shooting.

While I wholeheartedly disagree with British Muslim Imam, Anjem Choudary, I applaud his candid honesty. In a world filled with doublespeaking progressive apologists, politicians, and corporations that all perpetually lie about their agendas, to have someone admit his ugly truth is absolutely refreshing. Now if we could just get the executive branch of our government to do the same thing.
